Mrs. Nelson-Gardner

Welcome to Mitchell Elementary- home of the Mustangs! There are always exciting things happening each day in all of our classrooms and it is an honor to serve as principal of this hub of learning and self-discovery.

A graduate of Jeffco Public Schools, Colorado State University, Lesley University, and University of Colorado at Denver, I have had an education focus throughout my career. My work has included serving students as a classroom teacher, instructional coach, central office grants coach, assistant principal, and principal across two districts and five schools, from every level (elementary through high school). This experience has afforded me the opportunity to see a variety of ways to serve all kinds of students. As the principal, my tenants include: valuing others, equity, honesty, and dedication.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family of two teenagers and husband. Anything outdoors is always our favorite- we love camping and hiking in National Parks, as well as paddling on our local lakes and reservoirs. No matter the season, you can find us cheering on some sporting event or enjoying the weather.

Mitchell continues to aim to provide students with supports that address the whole-child while offering challenges that lead to growth. This is made possible through the dedicated work of highly-skilled educators, community partnerships, and parent/family collaboration.

We are excited about the possibilities this school year holds! We are continually evaluating what we’ve learned through the challenges of the past years to serve our learners in the best ways.

Together we connect today to transform tomorrow,

Janelle Nelson-Gardner

Principal
